Pantone Reveals Color of the Year for 2011:
PANTONE 18-2120 HoneysuckleEnergizing Honeysuckle Lifts Spirits and Imparts Confidence to Meet Life's Ongoing Challenges
Pantone LLC, the global authority on color and provider of professional color standards for the design industries, announced PANTONE® 18-2120 Honeysuckle, a vibrant, energetic hue, as the color of the year for 2011.
While the 2010 color of the year, PANTONE 15-5519 Turquoise, served as an escape for many, Honeysuckle emboldens us to face everyday troubles with verve and vigor. A dynamic reddish pink, Honeysuckle is encouraging and uplifting. It elevates our psyche beyond escape, instilling the confidence, courage and spirit to meet the exhaustive challenges that have become part of everyday life.“In times of stress, we need something to lift our spirits. Honeysuckle is a captivating, stimulating color that gets the adrenaline going – perfect to ward off the blues,” explains Leatrice Eiseman, executive director of the Pantone Color Institute®. “Honeysuckle derives its positive qualities from a powerful bond to its mother color red, the most physical, viscerally alive hue in the spectrum.”
Eiseman continues, “The intensity of this festive reddish pink allures and engages. In fact, this color, not the sweet fragrance of the flower blossoms for which it was named, is what attracts hummingbirds to nectar. Honeysuckle may also bring a wave of nostalgia for its associated delicious scent reminiscent of the carefree days of spring and summer.”Honeysuckle is guaranteed to produce a healthy glow when worn by both men and women. It's a striking, eye-catching hue that works well for day and night in women's apparel, accessories and cosmetics, and in men's ties, shirts and sportswear
I recently returned from Senior Portrait Artists in San Diego, California - what a rewarding experience. It amazes me how our industry is constantly innovating and reinventing itself. The quality of the portraiture at SPA is eye-popping and I loved having the opportunity to photograph SPA models and learn new techniques from some of SPA's featured, award-winning photographers. One of our own entries, Caitlin Timmins, was a finalist in the model competition. It was exciting to enter the portfolio competition with some of the best Portrait Artists in the nation, and a great honor to have my senior boy entry, Tyler Hale from Oregon, awarded "Top Ten Boy Folio" in this prestigious competition. Now I'm off to a shoot in Nevada, where I look forward to photographing incredible scenery and models. It'll be a great opportunity to incorporate some new techniques/skills I learned at SPA and prepare for the upcoming season. I'll keep in touch.

Holidays are over -- time to hit the road and discover what's new in the world of photography. Keeping fresh is vital to my profession and I love time spent with my peers learning the latest and greatest in photography. This week I'm at SPA (Senior Portrait Artists) in San Diego, CA. Next year I'll make sure to pay more attention to my travel arrangements since this year my wife booked me a package and I ended up sleeping my first night in less than suitable accommodations - squeaking beds, train noise, neighbors fighting, etc. I moved the next day.
I'll be showing you some creative portraits as the week goes on...

This weekend, the Wisconsin Professional Photographers Association held their annual convention. It was scheduled full of great, information packed programs presented by photographers from around the nation. Fabulous portraits were submittted by photographers throughout the State of Wisconsin, to be judged by a jury of their peers during the print competition Last night, at our Association Awards Dinner, Lee won two additional awards! We were very excited when he was named as one of the Top Ten Photographers in the State of Wisconsin. One of his judged images was also awarded a Court of Honor, distinguishing it as one of the top ten in the state! This past fall, Lee also had the honor of being named Best High School Male Photographer in the State of Wisconsin for his portraits of Brandon S. of Deerfield High School. Lee is a Master Craftsman of Photography, a distinction conferred on him by the Professional Photographers of America.
When deciding on who will create a portrait that will become a treasured heirloom in the family for years to come, consider who will be behind the lens. Although Uncle Jim may tinker in photography, Mrs. Miller may be your local high school teacher who does photography as a sideline, or the neighbor next door's son or daughter took a few college classes in photography, it is unlikely they will create quality portraiture that you will cherish throughout your lifetime.
